Yesterday I had a freaky moment. I was reading kit-kat's blog and she mentioned me at the bottom of her one word list. Here I was reading quite happily and thinking "This looks like a challenge. I think I might have to try it." Suddenly I saw my name. I had to do then - I was mentioned.

I was tagged.....

So Ms Frogdancer tagged me in this meme. It is VERY HARD as she said that I had to tell her things that she might not know. Do you know how hard that is when I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired? (Did I tell you that I am tired?)

So here goes....

1. I refused to do freestyle for years. Backstroke was the only way to go. Something about putting my face into the water, I was a little scared that I might drown – at least that might have been one reason.
2. My favourite sandwich combination is Vegemite and crushed walnuts. Don’t have it that often but when I do it needs to have butter on the bread too. For all of those non-Australians, and for that matter Australians, who don’t like Vegemite, you are missing out! [Just thinking about fresh bread, butter, vegemite and walnut sandwich……YUM!]
3. I am not particularly fond of the potato. Don’t mind the occasional one but I really don’t understand how people make it a staple of their diet. I will eat any other form of carb with a meal to stay away from the potato. To me, a potato promises so much but then can sometimes deliver a much lower level.
4. I have flaky nails. Well probably better to describe them as nails that peel back like layers on an onion. It is very bizarre and off putting. I have changed diet – not really a reason, and I have painted with those special formulas – also not a complete success.
5. While I love pinks and purples in my doona covers I MUST have blue in my sheets. It offsets the pink and purple a great deal…….I keep telling myself that!
6. I belong to two bookclubs. No, I don’t get confused over the books – one is reading classics and the other anything that is new on the shelf.

another one for today

Just come back from my long walk with great friend and child who live around the corner. It was great - we debriefed the week and she now sees the distance I travel each day to get to work. she dropped her husband at work, which is near mine, and now understands why I say it is far. It was also great talking through student teacher. Her reaction "what an idiot", in amongst a lot of other things as well.

Anyway I got home and I put a load of washing on and knitted a few rows in my zipper cardigan with hood (yes I am making a hoodie!). Up to the right front now. Left front all done - looks smashing. I thought that I would quickly catch up on the blog reading and found that Laura had done this meme and I decided to do it to as it was interesting. If you feel inclined you can do it too. I have been tagged by Mr Abode for a meme. This comes in two parts and both have made me think - as if I have hadn't had enough of that this last week!

5 Random/Weird things about myself

1. I am closer in age to my eldest niece than I am her mother - 10 years:14 years.

2. I have lived in 14 houses/units in 10 years. (something about those numbers which is just weird within itself)

3. I have a scar on the side of my face which I got from a dog bite when I was in grade 4.

4. I have a split uvula (you know, the thing that hangs down at the top of your throat at the back of your mouth.)

5. I have named nearly all my cars (Myrtle the Mazda, Horatio the Datsun, Querida the Holden and now the Astra - which I haven't named.

5 places I want to see or see again

1. Having read Mr Abodes thoughts I agree with this: West coast of the US - especially San Francisco and the Yosemite National Park. Alaska, Washington state, Canada. Also Chicago, Grand Canyon, Baltimore and New York.

2. I also agree with Bay of Islands in NZ (again though). I would love to see the Milford Sound in NZ though - from one end of the islands to another.

3. Ireland - never been there but gees I think it would be amazing.

4. South America - it would be fascinating and exciting.

5. Closer to home I would love to see Western Australia especially during the flower season. It would be beautiful.

My interview for the Great Interview Experiment

Yay - I got my questions from The Great Interview Experiement. Vanessa interviewed me amongst all the things going on in her life (good luck with it all!) I like her blog as well as there are some interesting random ramblings (sounds somewhat similar). Go and have a read of her blog- the haircut looks good too....

Here is MY inteview (by the way the questions are great)

You started your blog about the same time I did, do you have any big plans for the future of your blog?

At this stage I don’t have any big plans for my blog. My aim is quite simply write well and write often. I came into this via a friend who was writing and I thought it looked like fun. I now have a little bit of her bug with blogging. I don’t read as fast as she does so I read a few here and there and love what I find.

I also wanted to practice writing as I have always felt it was something I could do well but have never really had an outlet to practice on. There is something about typing that gives me freedom – pen and paper I struggle with. I love it when I get a comment along the lines of “the paragraph you wrote about. . . . .was quite realistic/sensitive/descriptive.” It means that I am able to connect with people.

What do you like best about your job? Is it your dream job?

I think I have one of the best jobs in the world. I have realised that I am given the privilege of watching young teenagers develop into adulthood. It is such an honour. The kids make many mistakes and that makes my job hysterical but there are times when you witness the most amazing moment when they realise they are someone.

This was never going to be my vocation. I decided that I was going to be lawyer but there were a few issues with this. I didn’t study in my final years at high school and didn’t make it into law at uni. (SOOOOOOOO far off the required marks but I had a great time being social!)

I never wanted to be a teacher when I was at school – that was what EVERYONE in my family did. I wanted to be something different. I stumbled around in my Bachelor of Education course, went on teaching rounds and then eventually got a job teaching in another state. Despite this first experience being one of the most awful things I had ever done there was something still calling to me. It was not until my fourth year (and third school) that I realised that I was having fun and I was good at it.

Is it my dream job? Not entirely. My dream job would involve performance, people and warm weather. I wouldn’t have to do it because I needed the money. I would do it because I loved doing it.

Do you have any plans to vacation outside of Australia?

Yes! I have already been to Bali, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Cook Islands.

I will eventually get to Europe (more Austria, Germany type countries), North America (Alaska intrigues me), South America (all that dancing and music), Africa (again the dancing and music) and a lot of Islands in the Pacific.

What has been the best vacation you have ever taken?

I have a few answers – family holidays at a Beach side town Airey’s Inlet. But from a purely learning experience – both Malaysia and the Cook Islands. The cultures of both destinations was amazing and the company was fantastic.

How do you balance the anonymity of the blog with writing about your life?

It is hard. There are times when I desperately want to write something along the lines of “Today at work this idiot (insert name). . . .” but I feel this would be too easy to do and not provide me with the experience of writing about something without naming anybody (including me). I have only mentioned one or two names in my blog since I started and I am proud of the fact that my writing is developing.

You mentioned an exercise plan. Have you been able to stick with it? What modifications have you made? Please inspire us!

Exercise plan. I do exercise but it has become very haphazard. The plan was the thing, the action is much, much, much harder. I can run now without puffing too much (before I could only walk moderately fast) and my strength has improved greatly. Lately I have had to have another look at my diet as I put on a bit of weight over Christmas/New Year holidays. It is unfortunate that I love chocolate, other sweets, savoury snacks AND alcohol. All of these foods/drink love me more and want to stay around for a long time (months even!)

The only thing I can say to inspire people is do something small, do it often, allow it to become a habit, then add to it. Remember that humans are allowed to make mistakes but it is getting back into the healthy habit again that is the difference.


You have some unruly neighbours it sounds like. Has it gotten better? Are you still thinking about moving?

I realised this morning that I haven’t given people the update on the neighbours. They are still there but I don’t hear them as much. I am not sure if this is to do with the fact that I have gotten used to them, the 7 foot fence blocks the sound, they are quieter or I am not going to let them get to me.

Whatever the reason I am happier BUT I am thinking of moving. I am saving, saving, saving to purchase my own property. I think I will continually need to save as Melbourne is the most expensive city to buy in at the moment…….then there is the whole issue of rates rising in response to our economy and the banks needing to sort out their finances due to the low doc roles in USA.

Do you have any pets? Or wish to have pets?

Yes. I have a cat. A black cat named ‘Precious’. I got her 5 years or so ago when Lord of the Rings came out. She has a great big bald spot in the middle of her back. (I have no idea why.) I got her from the RSPCA and she would only respond to a name ending with “ous” and I was not going to stand at the back door calling “pus pus”. Gollum entertained me especially when he said “my precious”.

What are some of your favorite blogs to read?

Dancing with frogs as the writer is one of my closest friends and her writing amuses me.
123Iloveyou as the writer makes me laugh. He inspires me as he is anonymous.
Nancy has recently become a favourite as I interviewed her and she writes about music/musicians.

What are you most thankful for in your life?

Two things.

My family. I don’t tell them enough. Each member of my family has provided me with inspiration and grounding. I am the youngest of a large family and they have taught me heaps.

My closest friends. They provide me with an ear, a shoulder and a helping hand. I love them.

I finally read through Nancy's blog and found out lots about her already - she is fantastic at communicating her thoughts. I thought about what I could ask her as she gives of herself quite freely and I didnt want to ask the obvious...

Here it is......

1) What is your favorite festival season/celebration and why?

I'm not big on holidays. I don't like the stress and obligations that usually go along with them. I do however, love the hot summer season. I bitch, whine, and complain about the cold all winter, so summer can be hot and humid and I won't say a peep about it. Summer brings great outside activities.Outdoor concerts, fairs, etc., and BBQ's, so that would have be my favorite way to just celebrate with family and friends.

2) Considering the mayoral incident and the current presidential campaign, What do you look for in a political aspirant?

I'd like to say I am hopeful, but of late I am pretty cynical. I usually say pick your poison, or pick the best of the two evils. I feel we Americans have gone through some major changes and disappointments with this present administration and our saving grace can only be hope and prayer for major changes with our next President. She has a big job ahead of her. *wink*

3) Who is your favorite musician of all time?

Easy, The Beatles. Always and forever.

4) You said in "pass the remote control" blog in the 50 questions meme that (question 22) you would change some decisions in history. What would you change?

I realize that changing one thing would change the complete course of the future, but I would eliminate all genocide from history.

5) What is the furthest destination that you have ever traveled to?

The Caribbean, but before I die, I hope I can change that to Paris France and Fiji Islands.

6) Describe your ideal destination.

Anyplace, hot, sandy, and plenty of SCUBA!

7) Describe a perfect weekend.

This would vary with the company and weather. So for now, something low-key, with friends, enjoying laughter, drinks, and swapping stories. I'm not one for big deal flare. If it was summer, I would say a double header at Comerica Park followed by dinner in downtown Royal Oak.

8) What are the most important song lyrics you have ever heard and why?

I don't really favor one song over another. I love all kinds of music. My kids dad is a musician and I'd have to answer this question, the song that has meant the most to me is one he wrote for me when we first met.

9) If you had to dispose of everything you owned except for 3 items, what would you keep and why?

Photos, my kids "boxes of memories" I have saved, (such as school work and home made items) because they are priceless and irreplaceable and a pair of good fitting jeans

10) What is the funniest things your kids have ever done that will stay with you forever?

Both kids had the typical shinning moments throughout their childhood so it's hard to pick just one. We still laugh about when my son was just a couple days old and lying on the counter for a sponge bath, he did the typical boy pee ... but it was a perfect shot/aim right into the toaster slot. My daughter, hands down, when she was 5, one week before kindergarten, she cut her bangs herself. Right off. Down to the root! Today, she is a hair stylist.

Catching up on the fun things

So I was just doing a little reading of people's blogs and found a few things that I wanted to get involved with. As you can see I have shown what disney character I am already.....

Now I was tagged by frogdancer to turn to page 123 of the nearest book, find the fifth sentence then write down the next 3 sentences (thanks for the book meme!)

So at the moment my light reading is The Barefoot Investor by Scott Pape. Page 123 would go something like this:

Thanks for that frogdancer! I haven't really got that far into the book and I am a little perplexed by what I have written. I'll have to go back and read to get to that point.

Okay so I tag laura, also abode as he is an English teacher and reading should be fairly easy (and he got me to find out that I was goofy as a disney character). Two newbies I am reading through The Great Interview Experiment: nancy, and vanessa. Now I would like to tag 123Iloveyou, but that is a big one and he is newly moved to Japan. Lets just see how he responds - or if he responds. I might have to comment and let him know.

Also I just read frogdancer's blog and discovered that I was a highlight for the swimming sports yesterday. No photos yet (I hope someone got one of me!) but I spent some time dancing as Baloo to the Bare Necessities. I had a good time and ALL the kids think I am a complete nutter. It is all good. Oh her socks look good.
